PAYROLL TAX AND ACCOUNTING Manager (Atlanta, GA)

Position Purpose

Responsible for leading a team of associates, accountable for managing multi national payroll tax

processing, garnishment processing and payroll accounting for the company and its subsidiaries.

Maintains legal and regulatory compliance for the company and ensures tight internal controls regarding

these functions. Works with federal, state and local tax jurisdictions in providing requested

information. Participates on special projects, such as testing of system upgrades/changes and

benchmarking studies.

 

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

Leads a team responsible for tax funding, tax reconciliation, review and analysis of tax notices, W

2 processing, W 2c processing, tax return filings, tax return amendments, garnishment interpretation and

administration, payroll funding and payroll accounting. Maintain current knowledge of tax regulatory

changes. Work closely with Legal and HR to determine impact of changes as well as ensure all payroll

systems reflect any changes. Develop a working relationship with our external tax processor to

accurately and efficiently file and fund payroll taxes for federal, state and local jurisdictions.

Includes daily, weekly and quarterly review of transmitted data and review of tax notice information.

 

Coordinate activities between our external unemployment claims processor, external tax filing

processor and internal production support to ensure that all tax tables in the payroll system reflect

current and accurate rates.

 

Direct the efforts of the garnishment team to ensure garnishment orders are interpreted and

processed accurately and timely

 

Manage special projects relating to regulatory changes, improving processes and/or reducing costs.

Project involvement may include analyzing, facilitating, and testing process and system changes, and may

include working with other internal departments and external consultants

 

Monitor performance of staff members. Delegate tasks and organize work schedules for direct

reports. Develop tax and accounting personnel to ensure efficient, effective, and quality processing of

payroll tax information

 

Preferred Qualifications

CPP or CPA Preferred

Management Experience in a Fortune 500 Company setting a plus

Corporate Payroll Controller

Job Description
We are looking for a dynamic Corporate Payroll Controller to manage and direct our organization's HR accounting functions. Specific areas of control will normally include the development and maintenance of planning and budgeting systems, analysis and interpretation of trends requiring Sr. management's attention, the preparation of financial and management reports and procedures, and the presentation of findings and specific recommendations to senior management. Job Responsibilities:

• Preparation of financial and management reports and procedures, and the presentation of findings and specific recommendations to senior management
• Appraises operating results in terms of costs, budgets, operating policies, trends and increased profit opportunities
• Performs other related duties as required
• Assumes responsibility for overseeing the day to day operations of a multi-state payroll organization.
• The Controller will ensure that all work related to compliance and controls are completed in an accurate and timely manner. In addition, the Controller- HR will coach and mentor staff; provide work direction and prioritization of daily workload staff; resolve Payroll issues escalated above the Analyst level; provide support and guidance to Analysts leading process improvement teams; build and foster customer relationships with key business partners. The position also entails providing strategic guidance and identifying areas for improvement with other Payroll staff.
• Ensure that HRO vendor and staff analysts within Payroll Group conduct payroll processing in an accurate and timely manner by providing work direction and prioritization to staff.
• The Controller will develop policies and procedures related to the following activities:
o Develop and direct procedures related to taxes, pensions, deductions and liens and garnishments.
o Verify pension calculations for various groups.
o Ensure that all tax deduction and related reporting and remittance is accurate.
o Manage external vendors, such as Ceridian to ensure accuracy and timeliness in payroll processing.
o Serve as an intermediary between the external vendors and the Payroll Department regarding pension and tax audit issues.
o Manage internal payroll tax compliance resources to ensure accuracy and timeliness in payroll processing.
o Lead or participate on payroll process improvement teams; evaluate current processes and procedures, identify opportunities for improvement, develop new processes / procedures, implement and assess impact of change.
