The APA in partnership with the National Council on Economic Education have created a lesson plan relevant for today's youth. This lesson plan includes how to calculate gross pay on your first pay check, how to calculate taxes, what types of deductions may be offered from your employer, and finally - what is left over, the net pay.
The MAPA chapter is very active in providing education to the Fulton County High School students. In 2006, MAPA appeared on stage with Mike Kavanagh, CFP at Centennial High School in Roswell to present to over 1500 students simultaneously via webcast.
In 2007, MAPA appeared again with Mike at Creekside High School in Fairburn, GA. The Auditoriums were packed at both events, and students took to the microphone to ask questions about employment, investing, and taxes. These brave students were rewarded with easy to read budgeting and personal finance books to start on their Road to Success! There were even a few Football specific inspirational books for those guys in the audience wearing their jerseys.
If you would like to join us for the 2008 session of Money Matters, Mike and Lisa will be presenting at West Side High School in South Atlanta on Thursday, September 4th. We were requested this time, no more begging to offer the program. MAPA would like to expand this program to include interviewing and job hunting skills for the high school graduate. If you know someone that could join us with that type of information, please have them contact Lisa Poole at 770-392-2505.
